BACK DOOR SLAM HITCHES UP WITH GOV’T MULE

FOR FALL “KINDER REVOLUTION” TOUR

Young  Blues-Rock Trio To Open 18 Dates For Jam Band Legends

Rising blues-rock trio Back Door Slam has been recruited to open on Gov’t Mule’s “Kinder Revolution” fall tour and report for duty at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston on Friday, October 31.  The opportunity to join up with one of the most popular, talented and revered jam bands is but the latest credit for this dynamic, hard-working young group from the United Kingdom’s Isle of Man.

Prior to hooking up with Gov’t Mule, Back Door Slam, which features singer-writer-guitarist Davy Knowles, bassist Adam Jones and drummer Ross Doyle—all 21-years-old—joined the Kid Rock/Lynyrd Skynyrd “Rock and Rebels” tour for a series of August dates.  They recently resumed a solo tour schedule, which includes the House of Blues in Dallas with Joe Bonamassa on September 26, a return to the Austin City Limits Festival on September 27 and a show that evening at Antone’s in Austin with Jakob Dylan.  Over the summer months, the band put in appearances at the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, Tennessee’s legendary Bonnaroo Music Festival, the Montreal Jazz and Cisco Ottawa Blues Fests and Portland, Oregon’s Waterfront Blues Festival, among various well-received club, hall and outdoor dates.

In addition, the trio’s iTunes downloadable EP (comprising a video and four exclusive live tracks) has charted on Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100 Singles Sales chart, while ROLL AWAY, BDS’ debut Blix Street Records album, remains a fixture on Billboard’s Blues chart.  The album continues to generate excellent response among fans and garner considerable critical acclaim.  Acknowledging the group’s classic, rough-hewn but adventurous sound, the Los Angeles Times dubbed Knowles “a guitar god in training,” while Charleston’s City Paper cited the CD’s fiery soulfulness, declaring “Roll Away rocks and swings with a maturity and confidence beyond the band’s years.”  Guitarist Knowles, noted Creative Loafing, “gets the usual ‘next Stevie Ray Vaughan’ accolades, but for once the comparisons aren’t just lazy journalism.

There’s a subtlety apparent in Knowles’ better-than-average originals and husky-beyond-his-years voice that set him apart from similar-sounding young guns.”  And, says The Boston Phoenix, “What’s also fantastic is the on-stage dynamism and tight-locked communication this trio of school chums and neighbors from the Isle of Man—a stone in the Irish Sea so small that everybody’s a neighbor—display in their thunderous performances.”

In the year since the release of ROLL AWAY, the band has performed on ABC-TV’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, the CBS Early Show and on National Public Radio’s World Café and has been featured on the syndicated House of Blues Radio Hour, Voice of America’s international Border Crossings program and XM Satellite Radio’s Bluesville Channel.

Headliner Gov’t Mule needs no introduction.  This band of much storied, much respected musicians has been delivering their big and memorable sound—a combination of riffs, grooves and improvisations—to legions of rock fans since 1994.  An irreplaceable staple at such festivals as Bonnaroo, Wakarusa and the New Orleans JazzFest, Gov’t Mule has a well-earned reputation for its live performances and also for CDs like the recently released HIGH & MIGHTY.

Following the end of the “Kinder Revolution” tour with the November 22 date at San Francisco’s Fillmore, Back Door Slam will take a break from the road and begin recording their second release on Blix Street Records, which is set for release in 2009.
